500 Internal Server Error – Fix

We were playing with the Index Manager in cPanel hosting system. Our website was running on wordpress cms. We set public_html to no indexing. As the result the website showed 500 Internal Server Error! and showed the message as below

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@llc.uk.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Solution

The fix to 500 Internal Server Error is simple if you are running wordpress system.

  1. From your control panel open File Manager. Make sure Show Hidden Files (dotfiles) option is checked
  2. Select .htaccess and edit
  3. You will find RewriteRule . index.php [L]Options -Indexes at the end remove it
  4. Click save and your site should be working again

           any other ways to fix this? mine looked like the person above. i removed the last line and still coming up with the error

    When I go to that file, I have nothing written in it, but I’m still getting the 500 server error… i just recently installed WP for my domain.  Any other suggestions?
